Learning About Scanning

When my boss asked me to look into some document scanning solutions, I was at a loss. I mean, you just scan the document and there you go, right? Well, apparently there’s a lot more to it than that. Yes, the first step is scanning the document, but there are more things that need to be in place so that everyone in the office has access to the paper once it is scanned.

Ideally, the document gets scanned and everyone on the network has access to it. But that would almost require everyone to have a scanner or full access to the network, which doesn’t work for our office environment.

So I poked around online and discovered that there are network scanning system providers that will set everything up for you, show you how it works and keep it running smoothly. I called around for estimates and arranged for one company to come into the office and help me pitch the idea to my boss. He loved it and put me in charge of making sure that we get what we need. The rep from the company has been super and I’m excited to get the scanning system in place.

Hunting for an SEO Company

I was on the hunt recently for a search engine optimization company for our company website. We do not have a full time webmaster on site and we discovered that our website was in the bottom half of search results on many relevant keyword searches on the internet.

Upon searching for San Diego SEO companies, I ran across several that seemed to fit our needs. I compared the SEO package offerings of several companies and most seemed very similar, so I decided to talk to some of the companies directly to see if I could determine a difference.

After looking at some examples of work, it became evident that not all SEO companies are the same. Some work to get you to the top of search engines without regard for keeping you there. They are pretty much a “one and done” proposition. Others work with your company to make sure that you are providing exceptional content to keep your site among the top sites on the web.

Eventually, I decided to go with a small SEO company that I ran across after looking at their portfolio and talking with their owner. This company had clients whose sites were much like ours and in a couple months time, they were near the top of the search engines. This seems like the fit for us. I will let you know how it turns out

Amazon Adventure: Week One

Hi guys. I’m emailing you from Amazon where the team and I are in our seventh day of research. Camping out here has been an incredible experience. You can’t even imagine how noisy it is in the jungle at night and how frightening it is hearing sounds coming from creatures that you can’t see but know are there. For the most part, we have all been jogging along without any problems although on the second day Michael became dehydrated so we cut the journey short for him to rest and get back into shape. That can happen so easily here so you have to be careful to keep drinking water. My asthma has also been giving me some problems. Luckily I have some steroids with me to throw in my inhaler that helps me out in the particularly steep climbing spots. In our six nights here we have so far had to remove five snakes from our tents. It’s amazing how they can just slither in through any crevice. The mosquitoes are a pain but we only really notice them at night when we aren’t moving. Every muscle in my body is killing me from all the walking and bending and climbing we are doing each day. So many critters we are finding are high up in the trees so, being the youngest and most agile, I’m the one sent up to catch them for observation. It was definitely a good idea to pack my bodybuilding supplements that I mix with water each morning. I think without them I would feel much weaker before each long day is finally over. That’s all for now, I’ll write you again next week after we’ve moved onto the water life here in the Amazon. Take care!

A CPAP machine is one of the best pieces of CPAP equipment that anyone can own who has sleep apnea. I myself do not personally have sleep apnea, but I have known several people who do have it. Because of this I got somewhat familiar with the condition and what they would go through before they were able to get a machine that was able to help them out as well as the ones that they were able to find and get their hands on.

I remember my second grade teacher was probably the first person I ever knew who had sleep apnea. Of course at the time I did not know too much about it or about her, but I remember she mentioned the words sleep apnea a few times in class and I think she explained to us some about what it was and how it worked and what it did and what kind of affect it had on her. But I do not think I really learned too much about it until later on in life, when my uncle was diagnosed with having it. I am glad there are machines out there to help, but still I sure hope I never have it.

Creative Advertising Ropes Me In

I’ve noticed that I’m not bothered nearly as much right at dinnertime by telemarketers. I think they’re getting smart and using call center consultants to re-think how and when they reach the public. I realize that telemarketing outsourcing is a very important tool for businesses, but it can be bothersome unless the companies are really smart about it.

Well, for some reason, I think companies are getting really discerning, and I simply don’t receive 6 to 8 calls a night anymore. I’m way more bothered by pop-ups on my computer! And I think companies are exploring many other avenues to get the word out about their companies, especially since many home and cell phone numbers have that call-blocking feature on.

I actually love when companies use creative advertising, especially since ads through traditional venues are becoming just so much white noise anymore. I’ll go check out the business if they have a clown on the street corner, or have some sort of grand opening or samples at a local festival. They’d just better be ready to back themselves up with quality products and services, though. More and more, that just simply isn’t the case anymore, and I’m only disappointed when I visit their place of business.

Road Trips with Pete

I had never been to California before so I can only say it was sure a good thing my friend happened to know where to find Bail Bonds in Santa Rosa when I called him in a panic. I did not even really know what in the world Bail Bonds were at the time, having never been in any kind of trouble myself. I mean, I was a star student, you know, the full on straight A kid who did honors programs and advanced calculus in the fifth grade. How would I know anything about that sort of stuff?

Well I got dragged into it incidentally when my friend Pete decided that he was going to get into a bar fight at one of the places we were visiting on our week long road trip over spring break. Next thing I know beer bottles are flying, chairs are being picked up and shoved in our face, and then before I knew it, we were being scruffed by the collars of our shirts and thrown out into the street where the police showed up minutes later and arrested my friend. Some trip! Definitely something I will never forget, or repeat again!

Dream On

I want to own a marine supply store. It sounds stupid, and for me, financially, at the moment, it is stupid. I don’t have the capital and I don’t have a shot at getting a loan, so barring a mysterious benefactor, I won’t be able to do it in the near future. But can’t you just see me, a salt of the earth, a hard tack of a man? I can wear chunky sweaters and a captain’s hat, and have those little wooden signs, like “It’s the captain’s way or the plank” or something to that effect.

I can have seventy five different types of rope, and one of those things that melts the end of the rope to seal it off. I can sell OMC parts and Mercruiser parts and anything else I deem appropriate. Maybe I could have a bait and tackle counter as well, with one of those jars full of earth worms.

It may sound nasty, but really, it’s pretty fabulous. I could sponsor the kids at their first regattas, talk to the fishermen, get some good deals on off the dock lobster, maybe get a couple guys to tell me the good fishing stores. Honestly, how does that not sound like my ideal life; or anyone’s ideal life, for that matter?

Sleep Apnea Help

Biofeedback to help with migraines

When my daughter entered her final year of college, she started experiencing migraine headaches and flu like symptoms including sore muscles and nauseas. I took her to see several doctors to find out what was wrong with her. I was told she suffered from no physical ailments and that it was mostly stress and anxiety. Then we were sent on our way, left to deal with it on our own or with heavy medication. Neither solution was okay with my daughter or me. So we kept looking for help. After about two months one doctor finally started thinking holistically and suggested we look into biofeedback as a diagnostic tool and to help us find an appropriate treatment method through meditation.

The doctor told us that by hooking my daughter up to biofeedback equipment they could monitor certain body functions such as heart rate, skin temperature and muscle tension. By finding when these changed, the doctor could then figure out what was triggering her migraines.

Once my daughter had a couple of sessions that helped her to identify her stressors, she learned some stress relief techniques. Since then she has her migraines under control and her flu like symptoms have completely disappeared.
