Every year, come late winter, my friends and I would start searching high and low for the very best hotel deal that existed. We knew that the less money we needed to spend on our beds meant more money we could spend on all the trappings associated with a quality spring break.

Since I sat out a couple of years after high school, college was on the 5 year plan, and I kept attending spring break for 3 years after graduation, I had become an expert after a decade of spring breaking!

It was mid-way through the college years when the suggestion of trying out some new destination came to all of us. For years we had all simply gone down to Daytona and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Given that we went to school in the Northwestern U.S, it was almost tradition that you go to Florida.

Deciding to take our “veteran status” into account I was elected to find THE best deal on a San Diego California hotel. I knew two freshman that were from San Diego, so I hit them up for the inside skinny.

What I learned was Pacific Beach was for losers, Ocean Beach, being in the take off path for the San Diego airport would cause deafness, and Mission Beach was the premium place to stay. After that, it was but a matter of time to find something wonderful and cheap right on Ocean Front Walk.
