My great Aunt Martha recently passed away.  I attended her funeral along with my parents and my brother.  Aunt Martha and I had a fun relationship.  She had an outgoing personality and truly stopped to smell the roses of life well into her nineties.

One of my favorite activities with Aunt Martha was baking.  I inherited all her recipe books and bake ware.  This is a windfall not only because having Aunt Martha’s pots and pans not only bring back great memories but also because many items she bought in the more recent years at great stores like William Sonoma and Sur la Table.

I also inherited Aunt Martha’s jewelry and I actually think I will sell the gold because it is just not my style.  I have to believe Aunt Martha would rather me visit a New York City pawn shop than keep items in my closet unused.

Aunt Martha was practical.  Perhaps I will use the money and purchase more cookware.  She would delight in the idea of me trading in the gold for cash to further my passion for cooking.  In fact, maybe I’ll use the money to go to chef school.  I think chef school would honor her memory more than jewelry sitting and collecting dust at the bottom of a dresser drawer.
