Well, the internet may not have wrecked me, but definitely my finances, which is just as bad. Some people, when they see high speed internet think, oh, high speed downloading, fast page refresh rate, big bandwidth, lots of fun. I see high speed internet and think, the ways in which I can go through money are getting faster and more numerous all the time.
Faster page refresh rate means that I can see every handbag I’m drooling over faster and in greater detail. Wireless internet service means I can never unhook from LouisVuitton.com. Satellite internet service means that I will never ever have to unglue myself from the loveless LCD screens of my phone, my laptop, my mini laptop, and my ipod touch.
All the while, I drift farther from the concrete cold plastic of my harsh financial reality. I don’t check the balance until I absolutely have to, because I know that all that awaits me is shock and horror. I don’t want to be horrified just yet. However, I also don’t want to be wholly cut off, so I guess that goes two ways. I mean, at the end of the day, I bet that at least some of this stuff would have a great resale value.
