I recently attended a science fair at my child’s elementary school and a very bright child from one of the older grades spent time calculating her family’s carbon footprint. I was quite impressed and enthralled by the prospect of calculating this and caring about the number. It seems that determining your carbon footprint is the newest go-green trend and I sincerely hope it catches on throughout our nation as well as globally.
I am pregnant and so issues of the environment often catch my eye. I don’t want our children to inherit a world full of pollution. I confess, I never tried cloth baby diapers with my previous children and suddenly I feel guilty about my consumption. If I don’t use cloth this time should I plant a tree or shrub for every disposable diaper I use and toss?
I think about my new baby’s room and wonder if I choose organic baby crib bedding, will that be a more environmentally friendly choice? I want the Earth to be fresh and clean for my children. My new baby bedding, diapers, and waste are my hot buttons today. Am I being emotional and hormonal because I am considering such issues or am I simply being responsible?
