One of the things that I have been doing for the past five summers is volunteering at computer camp. It is a great opportunity for children of all ages to gain an appreciation of computer programming and a chance to see the career opportunities that computer skills can provide. Not only that, but as an instructor, it is a rewarding experience to see the children learning and appreciating what computers can offer.
But after the flood last year, all of the computers at the camp were destroyed. Unfortunately, we had no insurance at the time and therefore the computer camp was in jeopardy. There was still interest from the parents and kids, so we needed to find a solution.
After calling around to the computer stores in town, we found a number of organizations that were willing to offer us computer rentals and laptop rentals at a deep discount so that we could get back on our feet. They knew that this camp was important to the community and important for them in the sense that in some respects we are grooming their future customers, so it was something they just had to do.
We are very thankful for the community’s help and involvement in keeping the computer camp alive and send a big thanks out to everyone that contributed – we couldn’t have done this without you.
